All of our students were from poor, underprivileged backgrounds, and most were the first in their family to go to university. About 80% of our students went to and successfully graduated from universities.
About 20% of students that completed university degrees pursued a degree specifically in Russian language. While this number may seem low, given the fact they are first generation college students and come from very impoverished backgrounds this is actually a pretty amazing achievement, and shows how much students enjoyed learning Russian in our program.

I am so excited to finally be teaching again! As you might be able to tell from my resume I am a person with both a lot of skills and a lot of interests, especially when it comes to language. Teaching, however, has always been something very close to my heart, and something I have constantly come back to and included in my career wherever it has taken me. For example, while working at KPMG as an artificial intelligence(AI) programmer, I helped to create, organize, and run a course on teaching different aspects of AI as it relates to language and programming. I have taught a wide array of subjects from economics and programming to Russian and English with a wide variety of students including: professionals, college students, highschool students, and teenagers/young children. I presume due to childrens’ more open, honest, and energetic nature that I have always found myself more at home teaching this age group. Working as a live-in tutor teaching and supervising highschool teenagers was one of the most rewarding and memorable experiences of my life. I would describe my approach to teaching as “patience with a push”. I believe that in order to truly succeed students will need to take learning into their own hands. You need to be “patient”: to provide a safe, judgment free environment for students to experiment in, make mistakes, and play. On the other hand it is also your job to “push” them: to create the engagement and interest in the subject you want to see by putting effort into understanding individual students’ personalities and motivators. My ultimate goal and measure of personal success as a teacher is whether I have helped my students not only to absorb information, but to foster within them a language learning framework that they can take with them in their future language learning journey and moreover share with them my own passion and excitement for languages that will help them continue learning with rigour for years to come. I bring a very unique and beneficial blend of skills, experiences, and personality to the table that will be perfect for this position. I love teaching and have continued to pursue it no matter where I have been in my career. I am myself an avid language learner and have achieved a close to native proficiency in Russian, so not only can I empathize with my students, but I can teach in a way that will make sense to native Russian speakers. Additionally, I have an open, outgoing, and enthusiastic personality that has been especially conducive to my teenage students, and I am certain with some tweaking will also succeed with younger children as well. Finally, my students’ success is something I take great pride and care in, and seeing how they not only learn languages, but learn how to learn them is magnificent to behold.
